About sufism and sufis?

Sufism is being branded as innovation and outside Islam by varous groups who claim to represent the "pure form" of Islam. I think Sufism is great that taught us love and gave us wonderful peotry.Most of the well known past sunni imams were also practicing one of the order and were totally in favour of Sufism. Whats your opinion
