Is there a significant meaning on having someone walk you down the aisle?

There are alot of things going on in my family right now. my father lives upstate, i have a step father whom my real father doesnt like. I'm getting married next year and my mom wants me to think about what the meaning of walking a bride down the aisle means before i choose what i'm going to do. if i am to walk by myself, choose between my step dad or real father, or have someone else walk me. I have no brothers or cousins to walk me. No close guys friends of mine to walk me, that arent already an usher. and if BOTH step dad and real father are going to be there, isn't it going to look weird if i do not choose one or both of them to walk me down? I feel i cant have both, because my dad doesnt like my stepdad. i feel that he may start trouble with me if i even suggest that option to him, and then he may not come at all. would that be for the better? would that show if he really cares for me at all, especially on my big day?
